This 21" carved olive wood statue of Saint Francis of Assisi depicts a bird on his arm and in his hand with a fawn looking upward. This hand carved masterpiece is made of grade A olive wood from the Holy Land in Bethlehem.
St. Francis lived from 1181-1226 in the regions of Italy and France. He is known as the patron saint of animals and the environment because he is said to have even preached to the birds and had a deep love for nature (Mark 16:15). However, St. Francis' love extended to people as well as evidenced by his sacrificial life.
