This hand carved olive wood statue of Saint Anthony of Padua depicts the saint holding the Child Jesus who is standing on a book. St. Anthony was born in 1195 AD in Lisbon, Portugal and entered the religious order of St. Augustine at age 15. He devoted his life to quiet prayer and lived a life of poverty in imitation of Christ. St. Anthony is celebrated as an extraodinary preacher and the first teacher in The Franciscan Order who was given the blessing to teach his brothers by St. Francis. St. Anthony is the patron saint of the poor, priest, and for recovery of lost items. The St. Anthony statue is hand made olive wood carving from Bethlehem in the Holy Land.
